Abstract
To make clear the effect of soap in cutting fluid on wheel strength, bending test have been performed after immersing in solution contained of soap or sodium hydroxide. As the result, the higher the concentration of solution and the longer the immersing time, the bending strength of wheel became low. The dependence of the latter was more remarkable than that of the former. Moreover, both strengths after immersed in saturated fatty acid soap solutions and unsaturated fatty acid soap solutions were nearly same level. It was clear that the larger the carbon number of fatty acid soap, the more the strength decreasing degree during immersing. These results could be discussed from the dissolution phenomena by sodium hydroxide and increasing the wettability by surface tension of soap solution. For the industrial problem, the smaller carbon number of fatty acid soap should be used to a soap in cutting fluid.
