Abstract

IN continuation of my discovery1 of the “Effect of Light on the Surface Tension of Boys's Soap Solutions” (which may perhaps be designated as the ‘Mahajan Effect’), I have now tried different solutions of different soaps and have found that the light has effect on all the soap solutions and it decreases the surface tension, but this decrease varies in amount, depending upon the kind of soap used and the concentration of that in the solution. It is found that the phenomenon is general and is not restricted to Boys's soap solutions only.
