Abstract

Two types of cellulose nitrate, CN 85 and CA 80-15 (Kodak Pathé, France) and polyallyldiglycol carbonate CR 39 (Pershore Mouldings, U.K.) were calibrated by different ions for the purpose of the linear energy transfer (L) spectrometry. The calibration curves in the form of track-to-bulk etch-rate ratio vs L were experimentally established within the L ∞ limits from 150 MeV cm 2 g -1 to 19740 MeV cm 2 g -1 . The experimental calibration curves are compared with the curves obtained by calculation using the detector bulk etch rate dependence upon the electron dose. An encouraging agreement between calculated and experimental calibration curves was noted for CR 39. The possibility of the high electron or gamma dose irradiation for the periodical SSTD calibration updating is discussed.
