Abstract

The spectrum of the transverse derivative of the streamwise velocity fluctuation is calculated, assuming local isotropy, and compared with measurements in a turbulent plane jet. Mean square values of the measured derivative do not support isotropy, but the spectrum, corrected for the effect of separation between hot wires, indicates a tendency towards isotropy at sufficiently large wavenumbers.
