Abstract
This paper is one of some papers which will be published in this year as a succession of last year's published, “Correspondence among Dutch civil engineers in earlydays Meiji Japan.”This paper describes the social background and the process of Kisogawa riverimprovement planed by Dutch civil engineer, J. de Rijke using modern techniques and also provides some new historical facts based on his leters.
