Abstract
The shot noise in metal contacts with small elastic electron mean free path is calculated. In the absence of inelastic scattering its value is three times smaller than that of a tunnel junction with equal resistance. If the contact is sufficiently long at large voltages the emission of phonons by nonequilibrium electrons leads to a nonlinear noise dependence on voltage.
