Abstract

In this paper the theory of shells is applied to find the shape of domes with bending and tension suppressed throughout the shell. As the result of this study the meridional shape and thickness variation of a tensionless masonry dome is obtained. The findings are plotted for some numerical values of parameters. A comparison is also made between the theoretically tensionless dome and a real historical masonry dome.
