Abstract

AbstractThe free electron energy levels of ultra fine metal particle are investigated on the basis of two‐dimensional jellium model with including size and shape dependences. Three shapes (a circle, square, and equilateral triangle), for which the energy levels are exactly solvable, are chosen and several electronic quantities are evaluated with the use of obtained eigenvalues, the number of which are ≈ 11000. The results show that when the size becomes smaller than ≈ 100 Å in diameter, some electronic quantities deviate considerably from the asymptotic form which is expected from the thermodynamic limit.
