Abstract

The first section of this paper presents the broad findings of the 1982 census of the Peoples Republic of China including data on population size growth rates age structure urban-rural and regional distribution educational attainment and composition by nationality. Comparisons are made with data from earlier Chinese censuses and from other countries. The second section presents the case for the accuracy of the census by addressing and refuting questions and criticisms raised about it. (summary in FRE SPA) (EXCERPT)
