Abstract

The optimum gas pressure of noble gas mixture and cathode sputtered hollow cathode lasers was found to increase with increasing discharge current. This observation is explained taking into consideration the change of the spatial distribution of the negative glow in the cathode hollow occuring due to the higher density of fast electrons present at increased discharge current and tube voltage. The influence of higher discharge current on excitation processes is also considered.
