Abstract

A comparison has been made of reactivity changes on water entry as calculated for four different pebble-bed HTR lattices. Differences in individual reaction rate variations were considered for the four cases. These indicated how, for a given lattice, the observed reactivity effect may be related to (a) the degree of hardness of the neutron spectrum, and (b) the fraction of total absorptions occurring as epithermal fertile captures.
