Abstract
The article examines the value picture of the world of a person as a linguistic social personality, since values serve as an indispensable component of a person’s characteristics. Utilitarian values are defined as the dominant consideration in the article. To reveal them, utilitarianism is considered as the core of the principle of utility, when the main guideline for a person’s actions and thoughts is the good, both public and personal. The fundamental principles in considering utilitarianism were the studies of J. Mill, J. Bentham, F. Hutcheson, C. Bekaaria, C. Helvetius. The formation and development of utilitarian values are analyzed based on the material of artistic works of Russian- and German-speaking authors. Speech acts are analyzed, in which the statements and actions of people make it possible to judge the moral values of a person, evaluate his human dignity, as well as his dominant character trait. The results of the study show that the characteristics of values, their implementation and functioning in society are determined, first of all, by intersubjective relations. It is consciousness, as well as the spiritual and emotional state of people and social communities, that influence all spheres of human life. Numerous examples prove that utilitarian values are manifested in life through a person’s relationship to himself, to other people, to society and to nature. Key words: values, value picture of the world, utilitarianism, benefit, man as a social object.
