Abstract

Filled skutterudite SmRu 4 P 12 shows an elastic softening below 3 K, in addition to the elastic anomalies associated with metal–insulator transition and a successive phase transition. The origin of low-temperature softening was discussed on the basis of other particular properties of this compound such as anomalously large Grüneisen parameter and a collapse of insulating state in small hydrostatic pressure.
