Abstract
In winter there is a spell of about a fortnight, during end of December and beginning of January when persistent fog over plains of northern states of India occurs every year almost regularly . In this paper authors have tried to find the reasons of persistence of this fog particularly over this area. The reason envisaged here is in the large scale circulation . This diagnosis is for making it a forecasting tool and the study is based on satellite observed cloud imagery received in the VIS and water vapour channels and the derived winds.
