Abstract

The School of Science and Engineering of Waseda University has started from April last year (1995) a new education system of basic experiment courses for freshmen and sophomores. The new experiment courses, which were named Experiment Courses of Science and Engineering, are constituted basically by a combination of the former Physics Basic Experiment Course and Chemistry Basic Experiment Course. However, the contents of the experiments are altered considerably in such a way as to deal with samples and phenomena which are more familiar to students. In particular the introduction of an experiment on computer literacy is the most remarkable alteration. What we are aiming at in introducing this new education system is to encourage students to think by themselves while doing the experiments and also to perform the experiments with their own interest and eagerness. In this article a brief description of the chemistry part of the experiment is reported.
