Abstract

Polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF) specimens obtained by stopping the polymerizatio of THF by amines so as to retain the charges in the polymer chain have been analysed by gel permeation chromatography. From changes in the gel-chromatograms obtained before and after treatment of the polymer specimens with electrolyte solutions, it is concluded that zwitter ion active centres are formed in the polymerization system under investigation. The constants and degree of dissociation of cyclic zwitter ions of PTHF have been calculated with reference to their degree of polymerization.
