Abstract

1 . Recently, 0SBORN and KOWALSKI (1) have proposed two coupled sets of integral equations for three-part icle scattering. These equations, referred to as , give directly elastic, rearrangement and break-up amplitudes as solutions. In this note we wish to point out an al ternat ive procedure to the Osborn-Kowalski method, which leads to two uncoupled sets of integral equations. The la t ter equations are completely equivalent to the 0sborn-Kowalski ones and can be immediate ly wri t ten down within the context of the All, Grassberger and Sandhas quasi-particle method (2), by a suitable manipulat ion of the operators yielding the generalized potentials. We shall t r y to clarify the connection between different three-body formulations outlining the advantages of the Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas method.
