To achieve this goal, the bibliosemantic method was used to clarify the state of the problem, and the results of previous scientific research were analyzed based on literature and electronic resources. The main part. The literature presents data on the historical stages of development of maxillofacial traumatology, the principles of care for injuries of the craniofacial area, the development of orthopedic structures for repositioning and fixation of jaw fragments, as well as their complications in a scattered and sometimes contradictory manner. Options for repositioning and fixation of mandibular fragments, instruments and devices are presented, and construction materials are described. Conclusion. Historical facts have been clarified, interesting details have been reported, and rare documents have been cited. In today's warfare, we are witnessing an increase in the number of soldiers with traumatic injuries of the maxillofacial area, post-traumatic defects and facial deformities, which are the result of inadequate and untimely medical care on the battlefield. Therefore, based on historical experience, it is necessary to have an algorithm of actions for such injuries directly on the battlefield, in hospitals and rehabilitation centers.
