Abstract

Results of a Monte Carlo study of the Ising chain with a long-range ferromagnetic interaction between spins, varying with distance as 1 r P . indicate the existence of a phase transition for 1 < p ⩽ 2. They also indicate that the nature of the transition may be non classical (not of the Curie-Weiss type).
