Abstract
A contour integral in conjunction with the finite element method is used to evaluate the stress intensity factors at the wedge of a bi-material joint subjected to surface tractions. The stresses near a wedge corner consist of two terms, a regular constant stress term that is independent of the radial distance from the wedge corner, and a singular stress term that is comprised of several stress fields of the form Hr λ –1. Here H is the intensity of the stress field, r is the radial distance from the corner and λ−1 being the order of the stress singularity. The regular constant stress term is determined analytically. The stress intensity factors can be evaluated using the method described in the paper.
