Abstract

1. (1) A calculation has been carried out, concerning the dependence of the entropy on deformation for an elastic, incompressible medium containing rigid anisotropic particles. 2. (2) The dependence of the elastic entropy force on the form of the particles has been investigated. In the limiting case of elongated particles (“needles”) the theory led to a result obtained earlier by Kuhn. For isotropic particles the elastic force is reduced to zero. For the other limiting case (“plates”) the dependence of the force on the deformation obtained was in general similar in form to the dependence for “needles”. The initial moduli of elasticity of the two limiting cases were equal.
