Abstract

The emprirical Ehrenreich's relation 1 between the effective mass of electrons, m e ∗, the energy gap, E g , and the valence band spin-orbit splitting, Δ, has been modified as below to find good agreement with the literature data on II–VI semiconductor compounds: (m e ∗ + 0.02)|[2E g −1 + (E g + Δ) −1]| = 0.22 eV −1 where band-gap values represent the data near liquid helium temperature.
