Abstract

The effective mass of electrons interacting with lattice vibrations is calculated by means of the second-order perturbation theory. The result is that the magnitude of the effective mass of electrons near the Fermi surface is of the order of 10-3 ∼ 10-4m , irrespective as to whether the distribution of electrons is normal or superconductive. The effect of small effective mass on the diamagnetic susceptibility of electrons is discussed.
