Abstract
The theorems of limit analysis are applied in a study of the plastic yielding of simply supported beams under the condition of plane stress, taking into account the influence of a uniform surface load. It is assumed that the material obeys the Mises yield criterion and the results are compared with those obtained by the simple plastic theory of bending.
