Abstract

In this paper, we discuss blind parallel interference cancellation (PIC) in the downlink of W-CDMA. Due to the multirate nature of W-CDMA, different spreading factors exist. This makes the estimation of interferers' codes difficult. We propose a method based on fast Walsh transform (FWT) to estimate interfering codes. Another important aspect is the estimation of interferers' powers, which is a critical issue in any interference cancellation (IC) scheme. We propose a method based on averaging the output power of different virtual users along with their occurrence. Two receivers are considered: chip-level equalizer followed by PIC, and rake receiver followed by PIC.
