Abstract
The dynamics of a rotating field pinch are described in terms of the macroscopic quantities: temperature, pressure, plasma radius and magnetic field strength. The amplitude programme necessary for maintaining the pinch is established and heating rates are given. The energy transfer between generator and plasma is examined and the condition for maximum efficiency is derived. These are the relations upon which the design of an experiment should be based.
