Ilza Veith, Ph.D., D.Med.Sci.: Dr. Veith was the first recipient of a doctorate in the history of medicine in the United States. She began teaching her subject at the University of Chicago and then moved on to her present position as professor and vice chairman, Department of History of Health Sciences, and professor, Department of Psychiatry, at the University of California, San Francisco.
