Abstract
A simple procedure is presented for the evaluation of the doubly scattered radiation contribution to lidar returns from a homogeneous cloud. No limitation is set to the angle of scattering and the variable time is considered in the procedure. A very narrow laser beam is assumed, but, as shown in the paper, the results can be extended to the case of a finite divergence of the beam. It is also shown that the results obtained for a distance of the cloud basis can be very simply scaled to the cases of different distances of the cloud.
