Abstract
Recent experimental results concerning cold fragmentation processes are successfully analyzed by recourse to the maximum entropy principle (MEP). It is found that all known features of these processes are inherent to the fission phenomenon itself, and can be observed in all types of fragmentation, provided the pairing effects are properly taken into account.
