Abstract

It is shown how the assumption that the mean value of a white noise torque and an orientational function is zero previously used in order to extract the linear dielectric response from the Langevin equation in the presence of a dc field may be justified in the context of the method of successive approximations. The results previously obtained for the linear non-inertial response by treating it as the limit of the linear inertial response are found from the non-inertial Langevin equation by interpreting it as a Stratonovich equation.
