Abstract

The isochromal annealing of radiocobalt in the cationic and anionic sites of neutron irradiated hydrated trans-[Co en 2(NO 2) 2][Co EDTA]H 2O has been measured and the results are compared with those obtained previously for cis-[Co en 2(NO 2) 2][Co EDTA] 3 H 2O. The retentions in cationic sites are linearly correlated with those in anionic sites, but the slope of the line is different for the hydrated and anhydrous salts and for cis and trans salts. It is also shown that the slopes of the lines depend on the atmosphere in which the annealing takes place. The results are briefly discussed in terms of the solid state isotopic exchange model for annealing reactions of recoiled species.
