Abstract
A novel FDTD algorithm for the efficient analysis of waveguide circuits is employed. The method consists of a combination of the conventional 3D FDTD method with the time domain modal expansion of the field within uniform waveguides. By properly choosing the location of the boundary between the FDTD mesh and the modal expansion domain, computational savings of 4 to 5 times over the conventional FDTD method are demonstrated.
