Abstract

• The effect of grain/subgrain size of TiNi alloy on martensitic transformation and stress-temperature behavior is revealed. • The effect of the grain size on plasticity is ambiguous and depends on test temperature. • The phenomena of a two-stage shape recovery under heating is revealed. • Variation of pre-strain value permits the precise control of the finish temperature of shape recovery in a wide range. The effect of grain/subgrain size in the range of 0.13−9.0 μm on mechanical and shape recovery characteristics of Ti−50.8 at.%Ni alloy was studied at test temperatures from 77 K to 373 K using tensile and bending modes. The revealed regularities can be used for the precise control of the studied properties including applied tasks.
