Abstract

The enrichment of solvent components in the solvation shell of ions in mixed solvents may be predicted qualitatively from energetic considerations. Four different experimental techniques for the determination of selective solvation are proposed. Selective solvation influences the solubilities of electrolytes in mixed solvents and the critical solution temperature in mixtures of solvents which are not completely miscible at all temperatures.
