Abstract

In this paper, I consider real fields K which are henselian with respect to a valuation v, with value group v K and residue field/~ = K/v. I determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for K to be a Rolle field, respectively a Rolle field with finitely many orderings, in terms of properties of v K and K/v. These results are applied to fields of generalized power series and are used to provide many examples of Rolte fields. Previously, Delon [3] and Benhissi [1] have considered Rolle fields of Hahn type power series. I wish to thank Franz-Viktor Kuhlmann and Florian Pop of Heidelberg for useful suggestions for this paper. 1. To begin, I recall known facts about valuation theory, Rolle fields and generalized
