Abstract

In the world of taxonomy and nomenclature, timing can be everything. A new species described yesterday takes precedence over the same entity described today. Consequently, it is essential that the Journal of Mammalogy makes every effort to facilitate the rapid dissemination of new names and nomenclatural acts, according to current nomenclature rules. The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN—iczn.org) oversees the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (The Code—ICZN 1999) that governs and provides structure to nomenclatural issues.
