Abstract

Some of the severe limitations in achieving high density magnetic recording with satisfactory data reliability are the increase of intersymbol interference and the decrease of signal-to-noise ratio in the readout system. Fourier transform technique serves a useful tool in establishing a logical relationship between magnetic recording reproduction and communication systems. As a result of which, we are in a position to apply, techniques developed in communication theory for achieving high density reliable magnetic recording. The concept of eye pattern as developed in communication theory, is utilized in this paper for evaluating and minimizing the effect of intersymbol interference. A simulation study has been made by applying the correlative level coding technique to calculate the eye-openings.
