Abstract

Traditional longitudinal methods for magnetic data recording and storage are approaching their maximum storage limits. In order to satisfy the continued need for greater storage and access speeds, new and improved methods for magnetic data storage are required. This paper describes a detector for use in a 2-dimensional magnetic storage system that employs a multi-track format without guard-bands between adjacent rows. Such a system allows for greater data storage density and transfer rates but requires a more complex data detector.
