Abstract

Experimental results are presented on the generation of longitudinal vortices in turbulent jets using sawtoothed high-intensity sound waves excitation. The flow and sound waves were visualized by the direct shadowgraph method. It is shown that at external and internal acoustic excitation the streamline curvature and velocity growth direction in the generated vortices are favourable for Görtler instability appearance, and the formed longitudinal vortices can by identified as Taylor-Görtler vortices
