Abstract

The year 1989 has seen an orgy of self-congratulations as the U.S. bourgeoisie perceives as proven the failure of communism and the triumph of capitalism. These two themes are always presented together although in a differing mix, one writer stressing the failure, another the triumph, but everyone covering both themes in the same discussion. There is, as it were, a pattern of ideological unity.
