Abstract

One of the sequent of the fourth generation of the industrial revolution, formally known as the Industry 4.0, is the extent to which sensors and actuators have integrated with various artefacts via a communication platform. The paradigm often termed as the Internet of Things (IoT) and has emerged as a new layer that adds a new dimension to the existing technologies. On the other hand, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), aka drones, are existing for more than three decades, and now, with immense scientific advancements in material science, integrated circuits, and aerodynamics, these drones are now affordable enough to complement several businesses, and can be simplified to the level of recreational entities and do-it-yourself (DIY) objects. Nonetheless, being contemporary technologies, drones could not escape from the influence of IoT, and the combination is now emanating as a new terminology, known as the Internet of Drones (IoD).Through this paper, we elaborate on the IoD term and discuss that how this emerging composite technology is going to make a paradigm makeover in the present and near future.
