Abstract
The squeezing properties of an atom and a radiation field have been investigated in a quantum optical model when it is restricted to the following initial condition: the atom is in the SU(2) coherent state and the field in a vacuum state. The relation between the field and atomic squeezing is discussed and the effect of the virtual-photon field on the atomic squeezing numerically examined.
