Abstract

The fatigue threshold behavior of tempered martensite in low and medium-carbon. low - alloy steels has been examined. It was found that fatigue thresholds of high temperature tempered martensite (HTTM) were about 6–9 MPam½, and that of low temperature tempered (LTTM) were about 3-5 MPam½. It is painted that many factors, such as microstructure crack closure, microstress carbon and alloying elements and their contents et al in steels have their own influences on fatigue threshold ΔKth in a greater or less degree, respectively. But among them, the influence of microstructure is predominant one.
