Abstract

n some Universities one can become a Doctor of Philosophy in Education without having taught; but such a Doctor of Philosophy is not necessarily qualified to teach in secondary schools. In Toronto recently I met someone who, although he was just about to be awarded his Ph.D. in Education, was going back to the college to do his Teachers' Diploma which would enable him to hold responsible teaching posts in the province of Ontario. Studying education is not the same as becoming a teacher. In order to become a teacher some study of education is necessary-for we are conscious beings-but no study of, or about anything will necessarily lead to the becoming of anything-the student of ethics need never be the moral man!
