Abstract

The occurrence and appearance of a yellow leaf blotch disease of narcissus found in South-West England and North Ireland and known to growers by the name of “fire” is recorded. The isolation of a fungus from the blotches and its growth in pure culture is described, and infection experiments indicate that it is pathogenic to the leaves only. The very large conidia are described in detail and also the microconidia and sclerotia which are of the Botrytis type. Besides the enormous size of the conidia an unusually large number of germ tubes is recorded, and the new species Botrytis polyblastis is described.
