Abstract

The feasibility of solving time dependent non‐periodic problems by using pseudospectral techniques has been demonstrated. The technique is to express the solution as the sum of periodic and polynomial functions. The FFT is then applied to the periodic function. To evaluate the polynomial function the general method based on the concept of periodic polynomial splines to obtain the coefficients of polynomials is developed in the present paper. The accuracy has been shown in the calculation of the two‐dimensional time dependent advection‐diffusion equation describing the transport and dispersion of atmospheric pollutants.
