Abstract

A representation of an arbitrary finite group G generated by involutions in the group of motions of a certain two-dimensional closed manifold is constructed and the character of the corresponding representation of G in the first homology group of that manifold with coefficients in the field of rational numbers is calculated in group-theoretical terms.Translated from Ukrainskii Matematicheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 43, Nos. 7–8, pp. 1013–1017, July–August, 1991.
