Abstract
The omnidirectional media streaming system as specified in motion pictures expert group (MPEG) is discussed. The paper provides a description of the viewport‐dependent delivery using adaptive bit rate streaming technology. It also describes the extractor method: an encapsulation technique defined in the ISO Base Media File Format. The use of the extractor technique reduces the number of decoder instances and also facilitates in providing an interoperable and standard conformant solution such that it enables the deployment of omnidirectional media applications in different heterogeneous devices.
