Oligochaete community of alluvial Upper Paraná River, Brazil: spatial and temporal distribution (1987–1988)

Samples were taken monthly at 10 stations in the Upper Parana River from June 1987 to September 1988. Fifteen species of oligochaetes were identified. Pristina americana was the only species recorded at all sampling stations, except Parana River station. Branchiura sowerbyi dominated in Fechada, Pousada das Garcas and Guarana Lakes and stations of Baia River. Stations linked to the Ivinhema River were mainly dominated by Paranadrilus descolei. Canonical Correspondence Analysis demonstrated that association of oligochaetes species found in different stations was caused by their proximity to channel, such as the Parana and the Ivinhema Rivers.
