Abstract

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) set up a series of web service specifications to implement geospatial data interoperation and processing in web environments. Ajax refers to the technology that incorporates JavaScript, XHTML and CSS, DOM, XML and XSLT, and XMLHttpRequest to create quick-responding web applications in distributed web environments. It can efficiently interpret and process XML file, and balance the load between the web server and the client side. OGC web services integrated with Ajax engine is able to realize data sharing and interoperation of huge amount of spatial information. This paper innovatively brings forward an approach to encapsulate WMS, WFS and WCS operations into separate classes. These classes embody the abstract class of Ajax and realize the asynchronous process of data communication. Then the method of designing Ajax engine is discussed. And an OGC Web Service Model based on Ajax engine is built with the description of its application process. Two examples then are given: one is retrieving remote sensing image from TerraServer using WMS; and the other one is retrieving spatial data from a web database using WFS. And the examples demonstrated the superiority of Ajax based OGC Web Services.
